Way back in 2006 when I first opened my store specializing in New Mexico made goods of all types, these mugs were made in the USA (although not in New Mexico). Because the company was owned and operated by a New Mexico woman out of Fairacres, NM, I decided to give them a try. They were an immediate hit with both in store and online customers. Since closing the brick and mortar shop back in 2012, they have consistently been the #1 seller month in and month out, even though they haven't been made in the USA for a few years now. Due to rising manufacturing costs, The Treasure Chest owner Maretha was forced to contract to have them manufactured in China. But, hey, they ARE a kind of china, right? : )
These mugs remain very high quality and true to the Native American Indian designs of the Mimbres and Mesa Verde peoples who drew on rocks and cave walls and made their own pottery with these patterns and designs on them hundreds of years ago. Some of the mugs have geometric patterns and others have animal fetish designs, such as the gecko, bear, rabbit, elk, turtle and frog.
Maretha came up with an excellent mug design which keeps your beverage from easily sloshing out when you walk, has a nice big handle (I just hate those cups with tiny handles, don't you?) and is both microwave and dishwasher safe. We take each mug out of it's box before packing to check for any damage or flaws (just in case, ya know?). They make excellent gifts, too! We hope you'll give them a try and let us know what you think!
