Ceramic Moccasins Hand-crafted in New Mexico
Each ceramic moccasin is handcrafted and handpainted by Mary Miller of Whispering Prairies Ceramics in Truth or Consequences, NM. Each moccasin is around 3 1/2" by 2" in size. The moccasin itself is painted with 'suede' paint and really has the feel of suede when you touch it--very unusual!
Miller is a ceramicist and is completely self-taught. "My work isn't done in traditional ways and techniques," said Miller. The artist strives to maintain her own individualism in creating her ceramics. This affords a "visual signature"- while viewing her work, one recognizes the artist even before seeing the signature. She owns the molds and hand-pours each piece, firing in her own kiln, then meticulously hand painting each ceramic piece individually so no two are exactly alike. Her grandfather was Native American and a traveling ceramicist, so it runs in her family through generations.
Each includes this info on card stock: "Whispering Prairies Ceramics is the name ceramicist Mary Miller has used for her hand-crafted ceramics for over two decades now. Self-taught, with a minor bit of American Indian blood from her father’s side, she has always been drawn to southwestern Native Americans designs and patterns. From her home studio in Palomas Creek, she hand-pours, glazes and fires each piece of Southwestern-style home décor herself, then hand-paints and often embellishes it with bits of stone or feather. Generally, she also signs each one of a kind ceramic art with “Mary Miller Truth or Consequences NM”. Available online only at www.new-mexico-online.com 575-894-7591"
Each one of these mocassins is hand-poured, fired and hand-painted to order and may, therefore, be slightly different than the one shown. The mold will be the same and the painting will be followed freehand to match significant designs of the one shown. While each may be painted slightly differently, they will have the same inherent southwestern Native American theme. Please allow 3 weeks for crafting before shipping.
PLEASE INCLUDE THE SUEDE PAINT COLOR DESIRED IN THE NOTES SECTION!!! CHOICE INCLUDE CINNAMON, CHESTNUT, TURQUOISE, GREEN AND BUCKSKIN (a chamois southwestern yellow-brown). The colors used in the design will be similar to those pictured or at the artisan's whim if no preference is specified.
