Spirit Roadrunner on Stone Base
This southwestern ceramic art actually consists of two hand-poured pieces, a tiny bowl and a roadrunner, set on a thin slab of stone. Each hand-poured piece is handcrafted and hand-painted by Mary Miller of Whispering Prairies Ceramics in Truth or Consequences, NM. Each roadrunner is around 4" by 3 1/2" in size, not counting the base.
Miller is a ceramicist and is completely self-taught. "My work isn't done in traditional ways and techniques," said Miller. The artist strives to maintain her own individualism in creating her ceramics. This affords a "visual signature"- while viewing her work, one recognizes the artist even before seeing the signature.
Since each ceramic roadrunner is hand-painted, there will be minor variations in the paintings themselves, whether it be a difference in the adobe building on one side or a difference between pots or feathers being painted on the other side. Each roadrunner has a real feather attached on its back. Each southwestern home decor art piece is hand signed by the artisan; she also writes "Truth or Consequences" on most of them.
